About me – a story in writing

Hello there – I believe we have not met! My name is Neesha Dewa, and I am a process engineering student. However, I am also an actress, content creator, a model and I also dance. That might sound a bit crazy and in many different directions to you, but for me that makes perfect sense.

I far back as I can remember, I have always been creative. I think I, as many others, have a lot on my mind and I have always had an urge to express it. When I was younger, I expressed my feelings through dance, but as I got older, I found new ways of expression.

Dance

My passion for dance has always been in my body. I used to dance with my dad all the time! I watched him perform at different gatherings and event, and sometimes I even joined along. I did shows whenever we had guests, and when I turned six, I started learning traditional Sinhalese dance.

Through elementary school I kept dancing where I also did a little cheerleading and later did rhythm gymnastics. I was introduced to a new way of movement.

My interest in western dance grew, and in gymnasium I started taking choreography dance classes and Dancehall. My love for dance got so big, that I decided to take a one-year dancing education at Hotstepper in 2016/17. I did many dance styles and thought I wanted to be a professional dancer. But no. My love to dance is still there, but it wasn’t dance as a profession that drew me. It was just the sharing and exchange of dance.

Acting

Do you know that feeling where there is something you really want, but because you are afraid you don’t even say it out loud? That is how I felt with acting. When I was younger I went to a few castings, but I never really dared to pursue it and when people asked about it, I told them I did It for the extra money.

During Corona, I did some self-reflection and I finally dared to say it out loud: I wanted to pursue acting. I applied for a one year acting course in 2021 and got accepted.

Content creation

I have had an Instagram profile for a long time, but never used it commercially. During Covid I was bored to death, so I downloaded Tik Tok. I grew a following quite fast, and when Reels came to Instagram, I uploaded the same videos. 5 months in and I went from 1.000 to 100.000 followers.

The key to my content is relatability. My goal is that my audience can relate to what I post and hopefully put a smile to their face.

Modeling

As my profile grew, more people started noticing me. I got scouted by my current modeling agency, Le Management. I did do small jobs before, but now I book jobs regularly, which I enjoy very much.

Edition

Edition started when I noticed that there was not a place in Copenhagen for beginners to dance. Every beginner class was either filled with kids or a beginner/intermediate class. I love what dance did to me and the way it made me feel, and I wanted to tranfer that to others.

When I have time, I do dance workshops teaching feminine dance classes. I also do private bookings for bachelorette parties, birthdays, anniversaries etc.
